From Suspended to Secured: Reclaiming a 5-Star Reputation for a UK Property Maintenance Business
In this study
For a Service Area Business (SAB) like a local tradesman, a Google Business Profile is the primary engine for generating leads. When Sean, the owner of Allstars Property Solutions, lost management access to his verified 5-star profile, he simply needed to reclaim ownership. However, because SABs hide their physical addresses for privacy, the standard automated claiming process is notoriously broken.
LocalVantage stepped in to handle the recovery and contacted Google’s Tier 1 Support. This is where a simple access issue turned into a worst-case scenario.
The timeline of the glitch:
- The "Trap": Google Support explicitly instructed us in writing to create and verify a brand-new, duplicate profile so they could manually merge it with the original 5-star listing.
- The Verification Win: We followed their instructions flawlessly, successfully navigating Google's strict verification process to get the duplicate profile live.
- The Algorithmic Strike: The moment the new profile was verified, Google’s automated spam filters detected two businesses with the exact same name and phone number. The algorithm panicked and immediately suspended the new profile.
- The Double-Suspension: Less than 48 hours later, the automated system dropped the hammer again, suspending Sean's original 5-star profile as well. The business was completely wiped off Google Maps.
- The Brick Wall: When we reached back out to the Support agent who provided the instructions, they replied with a generic, copy-pasted script, switched their contact address to a
no-replyemail, and completely ghosted us.
We were locked out of standard support, the client's livelihood was missing from the search results, and we were fighting an automated system that was punishing the business for following Google's own directions.

no-replyemail, and completely ghosted us.
We were locked out of standard support, the client's livelihood was missing from the search results, and we were fighting an automated system that was punishing the business for following Google's own directions.
Our Solution
We knew immediately that standard email support was a dead end. To save the profile, we had to bypass the frontline script-readers and force a Senior Trust & Safety engineer to manually override the automated system.
Here is exactly how LocalVantage executed the rescue:
1. Building an Airtight Case We didn't just submit a generic plea for reinstatement; we built an undeniable, documented trap. We compiled exact Case IDs, Place IDs, and screenshots of the explicit instructions from Tier 1 support, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Google's own team caused the duplicate data collision.
2. The Tactical Appeal Backdoor Because standard support had locked us behind a no-reply wall, we used the Google Business Profile Appeals Tool strategically. Instead of submitting a standard appeal for the duplicate listing, we used the text box as a backdoor to submit our evidence directly to the specialized moderation team. We explicitly instructed them not to reinstate the duplicate, but to review the internal error and execute the merge with the original Place ID.
3. Leveraging the "Human Element" Before the automated system crashed, a Google representative had briefly phoned the business owner to verify the situation. We used this in our escalation, pointing the engineers directly to their own internal call logs as undeniable proof that the business was legitimate and had already passed human verification.
4. Navigating the "Phantom Reviews" Glitch Our strategy worked. A senior engineer reviewed the evidence, lifted the suspension, and manually merged the profiles. However, as is common with major database merges, the 5-star reviews temporarily vanished from the live page. Knowing that editing a newly reinstated profile can trigger a secondary suspension, we implemented a strict 5-day freeze on the account, allowing Google's global servers time to fully sync the data until every single review successfully migrated back to the live listing.
The Results
By treating this as a technical rescue mission rather than a standard support ticket, LocalVantage successfully untangled the web of Google’s automated errors and delivered a total recovery for the client.
The Key Wins:
- Total Reinstatement: The Allstars Property Solutions profile was permanently removed from Google's automated suspension list and is fully live and visible on Google Maps and Search.
- 100% Review Recovery: All of the client's hard-earned 5-star reviews were successfully migrated and restored to the live storefront, protecting the business's local reputation.
- Secured Ownership: We successfully bypassed the broken SAB claiming loop, transferring Primary Ownership securely back to the business owner's personal email so he permanently holds the keys to his digital asset.
- Ready for Growth: With the profile stabilized and secured, we transitioned from crisis management to lead generation, keeping our agency on as a manager to fully optimize the listing and add specific service categories back in.
The Takeaway: When a local business relies on Google for its livelihood, an automated glitch can be catastrophic. Standard Google support is designed to read scripts, not solve complex system errors. This case study proves that when the system breaks, you need an experienced agency that knows how to build an airtight escalation, bypass the bots, and fight for your business.
